The Department of Pharmacology of VMCH & RI enriches the students with the knowledge of drugs and their usage for the benefit of the patients. The department conducts undergraduate courses for Medicine, Nursing and Allied health sciences in both theoretical and practical aspects of pharmacology. All of the animal experiments have been replaced by clinical pharmacology exercises and also by Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) modules. The pharmacology department of VMCH & RI strives hard to prepare exceptional students for productive and successful careers as clinicians, in society, in academia, in research, and the pharmaceutical industry. Besides delivering quality education in pharmacology and pharmacotherapeutics that effectively integrates critical thinking, problem-solving and leadership skills. The department works with the prime focus on inculcating in medical students the habit of practicing rational use of drugs and the culture of observing and reporting adverse drug reactions.
About the Area of Study:
Pharmacology is one of the basic subjects in the medical curriculum. It deals with various aspects of drugs: their sources, dosage forms, effects, adverse effects, indications, and contraindications. It also deals with animal experiments, the development of new drugs and the ethical conduct of clinical trials. The main objective of Pharmacology is to provide such scientific data, using which one can choose a drug treatment of proven efficacy and safety from the various options available, to benefit the patient.
