The anesthesiology department of VMCH&RI<\/strong> is one of the foremost centers of teaching and clinical excellence in southern districts of Tamilnadu.<\/p>\n

It is a busy department; providing anesthetic services in medical, neuro, surgical and cardio-thoracic round the clock for a variety of surgeries including CABG, VALVE REPLACEMENT and other technically challenging cases. Our department caters State of the art technology which includes multimodular-monitors, newer anesthetics, ultrasound-guided assessment intra-operatively and a large variety of difficult airway equipment among many others providing excellent training opportunities. In addition to providing anesthesia, the department also oversees the intensive care unit that largely caters to post-surgical patients.<\/p>\n

The department is much sought after by prospective trainees (residents) as it stands out as an excellent teaching facility. The faculty members have clinical work commitments only to the hospital. With no private practice, the doctors dedicate themselves to both clinical works as well as teaching. Good teacher-student rapport, as well as cordial interpersonal relationships, ensures stress-free working and learning, even with long working hours.<\/p>\n

The Anaesthesiologists are trained and have expertise in care for patients exposed to Deep Hypothermic Circulatory Arrest (DHCA), Cardioplegic Arrest, Ischemic-reperfusion injury, Perioperative organ injury (Brain, Kidney, and Heart in particular). Fellowship in Cardiac Anesthesia is offered to Post MD (anesthesia) who are offered specialized Cardiac anesthesia training at our Unit.<\/p>\n
