The surgery department is one of the massive departments in Velammal Hospital. There are having five functioning units each headed by a professor. Each unit has sufficient faculties to conduct procedures. There are around 150 beds available to support the undisturbed functioning of the surgery department. Each unit will have one admission day a week and two operation theater days. Our operation theater is a well advanced modular theater with all modern equipment. There are exclusive OT for laparoscopy and minimally invasive surgery. The department also has full-fledged surgery ICU with 10 beds absolutely for General surgery patients with round the clock service by consultants and specially trained qualified paramedical staff.<\/p>\n

To carry out OP procedure and daycare procedure there are separate minor OT adjacent to surgery OP. Apart from General surgery OP, We also conduct special clinics exclusively for Endocrine disorders ( Thyroid & Breast clinic). With increasing cases reporting diabetic-related foot issues, there is a separate Diabetic foot clinic. The department also has state of the art Upper & Lower, GI endoscopy suit.<\/p>\n

General surgery<\/strong> having a Seminar hall, Library, and Museum. For students, we have formulated a good curriculum. The students will be trained well to shine in life as a successful doctor. For undergraduates, we are conducting the \u201cIntensive Surgical Education Programme.\u201d<\/strong> And career guidance program, every year. For CRRI we are conducting the \u201cBasic Surgical Skill Course\u201d<\/strong> to tune surgical skills and to motivate them for a further career in the surgical field.<\/p>\n

We have applied for permission to start the MS postgraduate course at the Medical Council of India. After getting the LOP course will be started.<\/p>\n

Our Services<\/h3>\n

We are currently having video endoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy and laparoscopy services. The list is expanding. Each postoperative bed is equipped with ICU back up with central O2 supply, suction machine, and continuous mode of pulse oximeter and infusion pumps.<\/p>\n

A fully-equipped trauma center is in the process. The integrated trauma team approach involves the Department of surgery in the forefront.<\/p>\n
