Paediatrics

Department of Paediatrics is a section which holds a baby when he/she first cries, nurtures their growth and development during the neonatal period, caters to their needs and cares for their ailments during infancy, provides for immunizations and manages emergencies and sickness in a toddler, gently guides and cures illness in school going children, counsels and cares, heals and comforts the adolescent.

Velammal medical college hospital Paediatrics ward started functioning in new building from June 21,2012. But services to paediatric population started earlier in April 2011. The paediatric ward started functioning from August 2012, NICU from February 2013 and PICU from November 2013. At present the department comprises of nearly 11 qualified pediatricians who render their expert services full time for the institute.

The department is unique in the sense it serves a predominant rural population in and around Madurai. The highly qualified faculty and motivated staffs attract patients from all quarters. It is one of the most sought after tertiary paediatric and neonatal care centre in Madurai for its high quality, cost effective medical care.

From reviving a child at birth, to managing preterms and problems in the NICU, vaccinating children, managing emergencies in the PICU, monitoring growth & development, giving advice on nutrition, assisting in managing learning disorders.  Treating a whole gamut of illness ranging from upper respiratory tract infections to congenital heart diseases, etc. we provide the best and most comprehensive child care available in the region.

Our department builds a relationship with its patients from their birth to their steps into adulthood, walking beside them throughout this journey.
