We have a consistent record pass percentage of 99% pertaining to General Medicine for UG final year exams which is one of the highest among medical colleges. Our UG students have been regular Medal winners in both the theory and clinical exams conducted at the regional level the by prestigious Association of Physicians of India, Madurai Chapter raising eyebrows among academic circles. Our students have bagged top honors and prizes in various intercollegiate General Medicine academic competitions at state level like quiz competitions, case presentations, poster presentations in conferences etc., To name a few, our undergraduate students have won the first place in General Medicine Quiz in the regional level quiz competition in the historic Madurai Medical College and Sivagangai Medical College beating renowned colleges. In one of its kind and exclaiming to many, which is telling of the vibrant and encouraging academic atmosphere in the department, our undergraduate students have travelled overseas and presented rare cases and winning accolades in international conferences in Germany, Dubai, Australia, a feat unheard of. It is only as expected that many of our undergraduate students have gone to pursue their favourite dream of General medicine postgraduation in leading institutions of the country.

Symposiums, seminars, online learning programs and other interactive and innovative teaching methodologies conceived by the department foster an aspiring academic climate for the students. We conduct regular weekly Physician’s conference in the department with high caliber discussion on the important aspects of rare and interesting cases presented to the benefit of interns and postgraduates. We conduct frequent evening classes for medical students too for the fervor we have for academic excellence. Mindful of the need of postgraduation in the medical field, we conduct special General Medicine classes as part of NEET-PG coaching program of the college for UGs, an unthinkably wise venture. Medical superspecialists too are frequently involved in the training of UGs and PGs. We have conducted state level conferences MEDICON and conducted Guest lectures for the scholastic development of the medical students as well as the practicing doctors. Our postgraduate program even before its beginning has been one of the much sought after in the state. We have undertaken many research projects and published articles in international journals. We have even involved underrgraduates as part of our research team in our projects. We guide students in their ongoing ICMR-STS projects.

We still young by years, do have many more progressive ideas further to make the department as one of the top institutions for learning and excellence in the country. We’ll make a history, short while!
